Maryland Governor Appoints CSC Medical Director to Maryland Quality Assurance BoardDr Suresh K. Gupta, a leading physician and Medical Director of Center for Social Change, has been appointed by Maryland Governor, Governor Martin O’Malley as a commissioner of the Maryland State Board of Physicians (MBOP), earlier known as the Board of Physicians Quality Assurance (BPQA).
Dr. Gupta was sworn in by Governor Martin O’Malley and Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown recently in the state capital building in Annapolis, capital of Maryland. Currently The Board, MBOP, physicians and 7 consumers, to ensure and assure the quality health care provided to Marylanders, 5.615 millions, 6% of US population , each appointee is hand picked by The Governor of Maryland. As a physician member, filling a vacant seat, Dr. Gupta will now serve the Board through 2010 and then begin a new term for another four years from July 2010. Dr. Gupta after being appointed to this prestigious board said, “ To sit on The Board, and listen to, reviewer of cases, and vote on, I found not intimidating, but a very responsible civic duty assigned under Oath, one of my lifetime experiences.“ The Board receives complaints from consumers, patients, families, physicians, hospitals and various others anonymous resources, about 3,000 plus per year and after a thorough and detailed investigative work by the Board analysts, the MBOP Members, listens to and take actions against the accused, the physician or any other allied Health care providers, actions include Suspension of License, Revoking the license, Reprimanding the physician, Monetary fines and other various ways by sentencing the health care provider. Dr. Suresh K. Gupta was born in Amargarh, a small village in Haryana, India, graduating at the age of 23 from the medical school there. At the age of 27 he arrived in the US “to venture out, looking for ‘Opportunities’ did not exist then.” “Twenty-seven years of my adult/ mature/ productive life, I have enjoyed and endured in USA. It is an incredible feeling of accomplishment, added Dr. Gupta. |
